I get inspired by places and things that make me feel calm and at peace. That's the type of theming for my paintings that I want to see and enjoy in my own home.
One place that I forever feel at peace is situated between Ballynahinch and Seaforde, and it's a yoga studio that I attend every week. The studio is perched high, opposite a forest, and it has the most incredible view of the Mournes.
I've seen this view at dusk, in the dark, when it's light, and it's always breathtaking. There's often a golden hue around the mountains. There are fields of green and at the foot of the mountains, and depending on the weather and time of the day, the sky seems to present every colour imaginable.
This is honestly a view that you never tire of looking at.
When thinking about what would align to the massive scale of this canvas, I could only think of this view. So this piece is called Donard View as this was also the name of my grandparents’ home.
I hope every time that someone looks at this painting, they see the beauty that surrounds us, the beauty that we should be so grateful for here in Northern Ireland: the sunsets, the changing skies, the seasons, nature, and what's really on our doorstep.
Donard View is one of my favourite pieces of art, and I hope that the vibrant sky captures all the changing faces and colours of nature. Donard View I love, and I hope you love it too.
Donard View…for the originals.
