A St John's Summer captures a majestic beacon on the County Down coast, one that can be seen for miles - St John's Point Lighthouse. It stands proud, watching over the coastline, protecting its people and the landscape below.
The light was first established on 1st May 1844, and the tower we see today dates from 1893. It stands 39 metres tall, with a focal height of 37 metres, casting its beam 25 nautical miles out to sea. Almost two centuries on, it still stands watch.
There's something steadying about a structure that has held its ground for that long: through every storm, every changing tide, every ship that has ever needed to find its way home. This piece is about that quiet permanence, a beacon that has outlasted generations and will outlast many more.
