Her father disappeared with my husband, probably to watch football, and Heidi and I both got the paints out. It's got rings of friendship in it; it has pewter leaf. I also used some actual leaves to create some of the colour flashes by flicking the paint off the leaf onto the canvas. The pièce de résistance is the frame. To me, a piece is final when it's framed. That's the full package. The neon yellow is a stark juxtaposition against the deep purple, and then we have this very embellished black frame to set it all off. I was lucky enough to go to Palma last year on a girls’ trip with my three darling friends. One of our best decisions in a long time was to ensure that we always tried to go away for three or four nights to somewhere in the world every October. And in 2024, that city was Palma.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: justify;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Vijaya',serif; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; color: black;\"\u003eWe stayed right in the centre. We had a lovely hotel and a room with a balcony that looked across a busy main street, towards all of these beautiful, historic buildings with apartments. Every morning when I got up and I looked across, I spotted life in the building. From someone doing yoga to a couple embracing, a man on his balcony reading the paper, a family enjoying coffee to a young guy kicking back and relaxing. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: justify;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Vijaya',serif; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; color: black;\"\u003eThis really got me thinking about what it's like to live smack bang in a city and how their lives are so different to the life I live in Northern Ireland in a small town. Would I like it? I’m at a loss as to why this is but I am determined to oush on through, and one thing that I’m 100% sure of is that I NEVER ever regret a trip. As soon we landed in Palma, we had the best time. During the July holidays when the builders weren't in our current home, I came into our building site of a home and decided to paint. I needed something to calm my mind….something to take me away from the endless ‘to do’ lists and the pressure of a home extension.\u003cspan style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"\u003e  \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Vijaya',serif; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; color: black;\"\u003eAnd when I thought back to where I had visited recently, one of the most beautiful places was at this restaurant, Illeta, in Camp de Mar. This restaurant has actually been in a few movies and in a Netflix documentary called White Lines, where it was depicted as being in Ibiza, but it's definitely in Camp de Mar, a beautiful cove in southern Mallorca. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Vijaya',serif; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; color: black;\"\u003eIt was so good, we've been twice. You have to book weeks, if not months in advance. I've been during the day and also at night. This was during the day on our first visit. It is simply a stunningly beautiful place - a restaurant on a small island that you travel to on foot via a boardwalk. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: 'Vijaya',serif; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; color: black;\"\u003eI was sitting there with my husband, looking out, thinking how grateful I was to be in this beautiful part of the world and in this gorgeous restaurant. Fast forward to the July holidays back in County Down, beside my building site, and I wanted to transport myself back to Illeta. The paint used in Illeta is actually Johnston's household paint. What really surprised me was the peace I felt when I painted. I didn't know if this piece was going to turn out okay, but that was fine too as I was so enjoying the process.
